GOT QUESTIONS? (WE HOPE) WE HAVE THE ANSWERS!
This is a collection of the most common questions we get from you, our current and prospective players. In case you don't see your question answered here, please email or call us at 1-855-FLR-BAL1 and we'll help you.
What is Floorball?
-
Floorball is a fast-paced, exciting, safe and low-cost type of indoor hockey. At first glance, it resembles floor hockey or ball hockey but is played with specialized light-weight fibre glass or carbon fibre sticks and rules that promote safety and skill. We recommend watching What Is Floorball? for more information.
How does floorball differ from traditional floor hockey or ball hockey?
-
Floorball is an evolution of floor or ball hockey so it's instantly recognizable and fun for anyone who has played indoor hockey before. There are two main differences in floorball, which we belive make it a better version of the sport many of us love. The equipment is specifically designed for indoor play, allowing for easy and natural stickhandling, great shooting characteristics and accurate passes. The ball is light weight and won't cause injury. The rules of the game focus the sport on skill and safety, which serves a dual purpose: game play is fast and fluid and players don't need to wear any protective equipment like gloves, helments or even shin pads.
I'm new to floorball, can I play?
-
If you're new, of course you can play! All of our leagues cater to new players and at any given point during the season many of our league players are brand-new. Join individually or with a friend and we will make sure that you feel welcome.
-
Floorball is a sport that is easy to learn. Players who have played hockey (ice, ball or floor hockey) or other team sports like soccer usually make the fastest transition to floorball but we have committed players that have never played hockey before.
Where are the games played? When are the games played? How much does it cost?
-
The leagues we offer vary on season, available locations and interest from the community. The best way to get an accurate view of where and when games are played -- and how much they cost -- is to go through the registration page on the website.
Can I try floorball before signing up?
-
Yes, you can! Most of our leagues offer open house sessions at the beginning of the season or will allow you to "drop in" and try an organized game before you sign up. Please contact us for details.
Can I join with friends?
-
Yes, you can join with friends in most divisions. Please specify who you want to play with on your sign-up form and we will make sure you are on the same team.
Can I enter my own team?
-
Yes, you can enter your own team in most divisions. Through our partnership with FloorballPro.com, they can help outfit your team with jerseys, sticks and goalie gear, which are requirements when entering as a team.
Can I join more than one league?
-
Yes, you can play in as many leagues as you want.
When is the registration deadline?
-
The registration deadline varies by league. If you click the Register Online link the deadline will be visible on the registration pop-up screen.
Is the league insured?
-

-
The league is insured through a comprehensive insurance policy.

Where can I learn more about the rules of floorball?
Do you offer coaching or skills development sessions?
-
Coaching and skills development sessions are available for youth players through Toronto United, a local floorball club that is partnered with Grassroots Floorball Inc. Contact Simon Roethlisberger for details.
-
There are a lot of great videos available online to help you develop your skills. We recommend Salming Academy.
My son or daughter is of the age that they can join the Youth Senior or the Youth Junior league. Which league should we pick?
-
You can choose between the two levels but we reserve the right to move your child if we feel that one league is more suitable to his or her skill level.
I am having trouble signing up using the online system. Can you help me?
-
The online system is run by an outside company called Esportsdesk. Unfortunately sometimes there are issues with the system that are out of our control. We recommend you email Esportsdesk support or call their toll free number at (877) 606-0776. Let us know about your experience and don't get frustrated - we'll make sure you get signed up!
Links to venues:

TFL Downtown: Kerr Hall at Ryerson University - games are played in the main gymnasium.
-
TFL Midtown (Adult): York Glendon Athletic Club - games are played in the upstairs gym. We strongly recommend printing directions before your first visit, as it can be quite difficult to find the GAC on campus if you have not been there before.
-
TFL Midtown (Youth): Crescent School - games are played in the downstairs gym. There is plenty of free parking in the school parking lot. Enter the building by walking across the bridge and then take the inside stairs all the way to the bottom. The gym is on your left.
