More than 700 floorball enthusiasts will be participating in the seven divisions at the 2010 Canada Cup Championship but unfortunately some of the most anticipated top level players will be absent.
SF X3M, winners of the Elite division at last year's tournament under the team name Xstream IBK, have been faced with a serious last minute player situation. This team is made up of a talented mix of International players. Five of these star players who were planning on traveling from Sweden have unexpectedly missed their flight. I know what you are thinking but no, we cannot blame this one on that pesky volcano. This was an unfortunate reality of timing and paper complications.
Star forwards Daniel Dalbjer, Alexander Nede and Mattias Mattsson, all key to last year's championship run are out. Also out are new recruits Rickard Jacobsen and National team goalie Daniel Ramsin, who would have surely made an impact at this year's tournament.
Canada Cup 2010's Co-Chair Johanna Kytola's comments, "This is an unfortunate situation as we will greatly miss the skill and excitement that these players bring to the court, however we are fortunate to have in attendance other top level Swedish and Czech floorball players who will surely dazzle the crowds this weekend".
Some very quick thinking by manager Calle Karlsson and the Canada Cup organizers has saved SF X3M from having to pull the team out. Team goalie duty will now be handled by Michael Adamek and Tero Konttinen. SF X3M have also recruited Cal Smith from Hamilton to play on defense. More details on SF X3M's final roster will be made available as details are finalized.
